Pigs
Third Litter of 2011 born March
Our Third litter of Berkshires were born and Mom only had 8 piglets. That is a very small litter. the Mom now only has 4 babies left. They seem to be doing great.
The first 3 days are critical as the babies learn how to stay out from under the sows feet and learn to stay alive.
Mike and his Sows
Mike with his sowsThis is a picture of Mike out with his sows. He plays with them everyday. They think that they are big dogs!
These sows weigh between 500-700 lbs. Notice that this sow is up to Mike's waist! She is also about 8 feet long.
These sows are all 3-5 years old.
Pigs out playing in the mudWe are currently raising Berkshire Pigs. Berkshire Pigs are a heritage breed
The pigs that are white are a Berkshire Chester White cross that the boys show for 4-H.
Kevin with baby pigs on pastureKevin is here checking out a new litter of pigs born June 2010. We then moved them into a hut so they were protected from the weather.
The Peacock is interested too!Our Peacock is so funny. He thinks he is incharge here at the farm. He follows us around while we do chores and work in the field with the animals.
Here he is out in the field with us inspecting the new litter of pigs born June 2010
